To an audience that included both industry and academia, Marc presented an overview of the impact of globalization on intellectual property rights. Starting with a survey of intellectual property law generally, the trend toward harmonization of intellectual property rights in the international community was then discussed. A summary of some of the international treaties and agreements relevant to companies doing business in the global marketplace was presented, and the presentation was concluded with a discussion of issues to be considered by companies before, during, and after they enter the global market, in order to protect their intellectual property.
