Sangeeta Shah defines success as achieving balance in all aspects of life. Her legal practice at Brooks Kushman reflects that philosophy, as she both prosecutes and litigates matters in the patent and trademark areas. She uses her knowledge when prosecuting patents to ensure that her clients secure the broadest patent protection possible – protection that will survive any potential challenge. She uses her knowledge in litigation to formulate strategies tailored to a patent's file history and the relevant prior art. Sangeeta believes that by keeping active practices in both prosecution and litigation, she becomes a more effective lawyer, staying in step with the law as it evolves. For each project she takes on, Sangeeta sets out to gain a complete understanding of the client’s technology before starting to analyze the legal issues. That knowledge lends a sense of confidence and security that she is taking into account all important considerations, and allows her to formulate the most effective strategy. Sangeeta also considers it critical to develop close relationships with each client as a way of gaining insight into the client’s business and legal needs. Such a relationship allows her to better ascertain what the client’s true interests are, and helps her to develop a customized approach, designed with the client’s overall business objectives in mind. Prior to joining the firm, Sangeeta worked in Ford Motor Company’s chemical engineering and analytical chemistry departments, in the areas of catalysts, polymers, and alternative fuels. She also worked in the Intellectual Property Division of Ford’s Office of General Counsel. During law school, Sangeeta served as vice-chancellor of Moot Court and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Advocacy.
