Tim Quinlan brings more than twenty years of experience to Brooks Kushman. Most recently, Tim served as in-house Trademark Counsel for Ford Motor Company where he managed trademark, copyright, licensing and brand protection matters for Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston-Martin, and Ford Customer Service. Tim’s expertise includes infringement and counterfeiting litigation, managing an enforcement program, trademark licensing, copyright agreements and litigation, and negotiation of technology agreements. Tim draws upon his prior experience as a federal prosecutor and civil litigator in his management of brand protection and anti-counterfeiting efforts. Prior to joining Ford’s Trademark group, Tim served as in-house counsel for the Company’s product litigation and discovery activities. He represented Ford in extensive discovery disputes across the United States; from venues ranging from local courts to the Federal Multi-District Litigation action involving alleged defects in Firestone Tires and the Ford Explorer. Tim left his position as equity partner with the litigation firm of Cabaniss, Burke & Wagner in Orlando, Florida, to make the move to Ford in 1996. He has represented General Motors, Ford, and Hyundai in product liability litigation across the country. In fact, it was his trial representation of Ford in a Bronco II rollover lawsuit that brought him to the attention of the Company and selection as one of its Next Generation National Trial Attorneys. Tim relished his experience as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida where he tried more than two dozen criminal matters and investigation of more than one hundred cases that ranged from counterfeiting, arson, and firearms violations to white collar fraud, money laundering, and drug trafficking conspiracies. As a prosecutor, Tim received commendation from the U.S. Customs service for his investigation of a lengthy internal affairs matter involving a federal agent; from the U.S. Secret Service for assistance in credit card and bank fraud; and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for difficult and lengthy trials involving arson and explosive crimes. Tim began his legal career with the Florida litigation firm of Rumberger, Kirk, Caldwell, Cabaniss & Burke in Orlando after graduating with honors from the University of Florida College of Law in 1988. While at the University of Florida, he was captain of the school’s trial team and twice awarded The Rumberger Cup for outstanding trial advocacy. He received the Justice Lewis F. Powell, Jr. Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy and The Chester Bedell award for Advocacy from the Florida Bar Trial Competition. Tim received his Masters of Theological Studies from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary on the Northwestern campus in Evanston, Illinois in 1985 with an emphasis on New Testament Scripture and Patristic Studies. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from Lake Forest College, in Lake Forest, Illinois in 1982. Tim is a member of the Florida and Michigan Bar Associations, as well as the International Trademark Association. He has made presentations to the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the American Bar Association, and many community groups.
