Lee Redman brings more than thirty-five years of intellectual property experience to Brooks Kushman. This includes over thirty years as Intellectual Property Counsel for Masco Corporation, where he had primary responsibility for trademark, patent, trade secret and copyright matters for several domestic and international subsidiaries. This global responsibility included managing trademark and patent applications, enforcement programs, and litigation; negotiation of technology, product development and license agreements; and related business acquisitions and divestitures. Lee negotiated the strategic purchase of patent rights and the subsequent successful enforcement and industry wide licensing of the acquired rights in diverse product areas such as OEM luggage racks and computer controlled scanner radios.
In addition to managing large trademark and patent portfolios, Lee advised and counseled the Masco companies on matters related to their trademarks and provided advice relating to trademarks in advertising and marketing. He developed and conducted IP seminars for promoting the strategic importance of IP for engineering, marketing, sales and financial groups throughout the Masco companies.
Lee began his legal career with Burroughs Corporation in their Washington Patent Operation as a Patent Agent while attending Catholic University Columbus School of Law where he was President of the Student Patent Law Association. After graduation he was employed by Burroughs at their World Headquarters in Detroit drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications on computer related digital electronics and optical character recognition systems, as well as rendering validity and infringement opinions.
Lee has the recognized ability to negotiate and achieve resolution of complex intellectual property controversies with favorable results, drawing on his interpersonal and communication skills, his attention to detail, as well as his business judgment and IP expertise.
