Jeremy Hargis is an attorney and licensed professional engineer that focuses his practice on intellectual property law (IP). Jeremy works with clients in various capacities but he specializes in counseling organizations on strategies to effectively secure, enforce and leverage their IP for competitive advantage. Jeremy has successfully helped clients in identifying IP by working side-by-side with engineers and inventors, writing invention disclosures, and conducting brainstorming and design-around sessions. He works to determine the best legal protection for the identified IP; whether to apply for a patent or a trademark, register a copyright, maintain the IP as a trade secret, or publish a defensive publication. Jeremy is able to secure protection for the IP, from drafting high quality patent applications to setting up systems to protect a trade secret. Jeremy also brings a unique ability in that he is also capable of policing the secured IP by targeting competitor products and tearing down the products to determine infringement. Ultimately, Jeremy helps IP owners develop a strategy and utilize their secured IP for profit and freedom to operate by intelligently licensing some organizations while sending cease and desist letters to others. Prior to becoming an attorney, Jeremy had already worked in the IP industry. He was a patent searcher and full time law clerk at Brooks Kushman as well as a patent analyst and patent search trainer at Landon IP, an internationally recognized patent search firm. Jeremy conducted examinations on World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He was also an Intellectual Property Engineer for a tier one automotive supplier. Before venturing into the world of IP, Jeremy also worked as an engineer for over eight years for Robert Bosch, LLC and SPX Corporation.
